Road Book

17 july 2010, goodbye Jean !

  • July 17
  • 16H20

Jean’s adventure is ending today. His car is no longer working and his desire to reach the North Cap has been fulfilled. He returns in France by plane, where his family is waiting for him.
For memory, Jean is 88 years old and he has made almost 4600 km by himself, alone in his red Clio.

For the rest of the participants, a new challenge today. A two days hike of 20 km with tent and sleeping bag on the back is planned on the Soraya Island.

At the check point at the Hammerfest harbour, people divide into two groups.
The walk of the day before is still fresh in everyone’s muscles and many raiders don’t feel the courage to go that soon for a second round !

In the boat, toward the island, the brave ones are : L’Agence tous risques, Les Vikings, L’élan rapide, Claude and Alain of La Pau du Lyon, Pic without Poc, Satanas and Diabolo, Julien of Les 2 caps, Philippe and his 11 years old daughter Emilie.

At the arrival at Soraya, unexpected and unforeseen !! Claude and Alain forgot to come down off the boat.
This boat only makes one trip a day and is taking them away towards other islands before returning to Hammerfest…

The raiders on the island continue their trip, powerless to help their friends. They arrive to a brand new school where the director Alvin is expecting them. That school receive every day 10 children, but tonight, the raiders are allowed to spend the night in it if they want to.

Informed of the terrible misadventure, Alvin decides to give a hand and take his own boat out to get back Alain and Claude.
Accompanied by Philippe and Emilie, they go after the boat.
Half an hour later, it is altogether that the little team returns on Soraya.
The hiking can now start.

3 hours and a half through the mountains to get to the highest point of the island and than settle down the campsite for the night.

In this nature of tundra, making a fire is not an easy affair !
With old pieces of wood and a survival knife, it is a hard work to get the flames to rise.
But later, everyone is enjoying nice grilled sausages !

The erosion by wind and rain over centuries created a natural trough at the top of the mountain, ideal to spend a comfortable night.

On the other side of the sea, the participants who stayed took the advantage to visit Hammerfest.
The Pinguoins volants and Studio 45 will even end the evening in a local disco.
