Today was a long transition stage between Norway and Sweden, with 415 km for our participants to cover. However, given the terrible weather on the Lofotens, many had used the previous day’s rest day to get a head start.
A lot of the teams stopped off at Kiruna (Sweden), the site of the world’s largest underground iron-ore mine.
Team Imagélan used the day to work on their documentary on the architecture of the town of Vaga.
Everyone met up at the checkpoint at Nikkaluokta, only to head off again at around 9 pm for a 6-km hike to our camp. The trail we followed is extremely popular, as it leads to Kebnekaise, Sweden’s highest mountain (2110 metres). As well as being ideally located beside the path we would take for the next day’s hike around the lake, our camp was incredibly beautiful, lying on the edge of a lake and surrounded by mountains that rose straight from the water’s edge.
Once we had set up camp, we huddled round a roaring fire, hoping the smoke would do a better job of keeping away the mosquitos than our insect repellents!
